Stitch of the week!

For the love of Seed Stitch...

How about an "how to" guide for stitches?  Every Monday, I will introduce a new stitch.  I hope it will become a reference of sorts when you are stuck at home and can't make it into the shop for quick help.  Like the book review, I'm just going to start with my personal favorite...  the Seed Stitch.  I love this stitch, let me count the ways...  for one, this stitch provides a lovely texture to any piece.  It is reversible, stretchy and it always lays flat so you can use seed stitch on a border and you don't have to worry about the edges curling up or it collapsing in on itself like a Rib stitch!  It is great for scarves, shawls, anything you need to border like hat brims and sweaters!

The easiest way to  work this stitch is to have an odd number of stitches.  This way, you start every row with a Knit stitch so every row, wrong side or right side looks like this...  K1, P1, K1, P1, K1 to your hearts content!  If you have an odd number of stitches, then the stitches will automatically line up to where you are knitting the purls and purling the knits.  So easy!
